Pharmaceutical industry refers to the segment of business devoted to the design, development, and manufacture of chemical products for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease, disability, or other dysfunction, or to improve function. Pharmaceutical companies may be private or public.
The key difference between pharmaceutical companies and biopharmaceutical companies is that pharmaceutical companies create their products from chemicals and synthetic processes, whereas biopharmaceutical companies produce products using biotechnology.
