Disease model
« Back to Glossary IndexA disease model is a cell or animal which has pathological processes either the same as or like a disease in humans. A disease model may not display all of the disease processes that occur in the human disease and may be naturally-occurring or experimentally-induced.
Cell and animal models are used to study the development and progression of diseases and to test new treatments before they are given to humans. Animals with transplanted human cancers or other tissues are called xenograft models.
