« Back to Glossary IndexA biorepository is a facility that acts as a library for biosamples, allowing the samples to be available for use in future research. A biosample may also be referred to as a biospecimen and may be from people, animals, or other living organisms.
A biorepository will be involved in collecting, cataloguing, and storing biosamples. The biorepository will also be involved in managing access to and distributing biosamples to researchers. Some biorepositories store medical information associated with a biosample. When a biosample is obtained from a person, written consent to use the biosamples in research or laboratory studies is required.
